Embercrown Saga

Embercrown Saga is a proper turn-based RPG built for a phone screen. Battles are grid-light and readable, and the party system rewards you for actually thinking about who you bring rather than just leveling one hero into a wall. Each character has a distinct role and a personality to match.

The writing surprised me. The main quest is standard fantasy stuff, but the side conversations between party members are warm and often funny, and they play out during travel so you're never staring at a wall of text between fights.

Progress saves cleanly and you can drop out mid-battle, which is exactly what a mobile RPG needs. It's a long game, but it never punishes you for playing in short bursts.
